Georgia Police Chase Robbery Suspects Ending in Crash

Sandy Springs police chased several robbery suspects around I-285 late Friday morning before the suspects wrecked in northwest Atlanta.
According to Sandy Springs police, the chase began shortly after 11 a.m. following a pedestrian robbery outside a Bank of America branch in the 8700 block of Roswell Road.  Police chased the three male suspects down Ga. 400 to I-285, then south on I-285 through Cobb County into Atlanta, where the suspects wrecked at the intersection of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Bolton Road.  Two suspects were taken into custody, and police had K-9 units on the scene still searching for the third suspect at noon Friday.  The robbery victim told Channel 2 Action News that he was headed into the bank to make a deposit when the suspects grabbed a money pouch from his hands.

Georgia Motorist Slams into Patrol Car on I-20

All eastbound lanes of I-20 in downtown Atlanta were closed for over an hour Thursday morning after a Georgia State Patrol cruiser was struck by another vehicle.
The crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. on I-20 eastbound at the Downtown Connector. The interstate reopened shortly after 10 a.m.  GSP Trooper First Class Mark Campbell was investigating an earlier wreck when Campbell’s patrol car was hit from behind by a Dodge Dakota, according to the GSP.  Campbell was not injured, but the patrol car was totaled.  The Dakota driver, Lee Arthur Jackson, 64, of Austell, complained of injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Charges are pending.

Person Killed by Train in DeKalb

A person was run over and killed by a train Tuesday in Tucker. According to DeKalb police dispatchers, the male victim was trapped beneath the seventh car on a CSX train near Lawrenceville Highway and Hugh Howell Road.

Two Teens Hurt in Georgia Auto Accident

Two teenagers were injured  in a single-car wreck on a west Cobb County road.  The wreck happened about 6:15 p.m.Tuesday in Nichols Road near Mars Hill Road between Powder Springs and Acworth.  It was reported that the driver of the 2004 Ford Mustang “lost control of the vehicle, left the southern side of the roadway and struck a tree.”  The 17-year-old driver was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, and a juvenile passenger was taken to another hospital for treatment. Their names have not been released.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Police Car in Dekalb Georgia

A man was struck by a police vehicle and killed while trying to cross a busy DeKalb County street.
It was reported that the man was crossing Memorial Drive near a Texaco station at West Mountain Street when he was hit by the marked patrol car.  A witness says that the man was jaywalking, and that the officer did not have his emergency lights or siren activated.  Police have not said whether the officer was headed to a call.
“I really don’t know the circumstances right now,” DeKalb police Major B.C. Harris told the station. “We’re trying to find some witnesses, possibly try to get some video from the Texaco station.”
Police have not released the names of the dead man or the officer.

1 Dead and Another Hurt After Head-on Crash with Truck

An early Saturday crash on North Druid Hills Road left one driver dead and another in critical condition, DeKalb County authorities said. The driver who was killed was traveling westbound in a minivan on North Druid Hills Road when he crossed the center line near Arbordale Drive. The driver collided head-on with an oncoming truck.
The driver of the truck was left hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of a third vehicle involved in the accident was not injured.

Georgia Driver Charged After 8 Hurt in Head-on Crash

A driver has been charged in connection with the Johns Creek accident that sent two children in the driver’s vehicle and six others to the hospital Saturday.  It was reported that none of the injuries were life threatening.  The accident occurred just after 1 p.m. Saturday on McGinnis Ferry Road near the Gwinnett and Forsyth county line. The driver of a Honda vehicle that crossed a median and hit an oncoming SUV has been charged with failure to maintain lane and with two counts of failure to properly restrain a child, Byers said.  Both children were taken to Scottish Rite Hospital, according to Byers, who did not yet have the names or ages of anyone involved in the accident; one of the children was released Saturday night and the other was held overnight for observation.  Of the five people riding in the SUV that was struck, the driver was the worst injured with “a few fractures” and was taken to North Fulton Medical hospital, Byers said. A child less than a year old was properly restrained in that vehicle and suffered only “a bit of a rash from the straps” on the car seat.

Georgia Driver Charged in Hit-and-Run That Injured Jogger

An 18-year-old McDonough motorist has been charged in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a woman jogging along a Henry County road earlier this month.  An investigation led police to identify a suspect, and Kyle Andrew Harvey surrendered to authorities at the Henry County jail, according to a news release from the Henry County Police Department.  Harvey has been charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle and hit-and-run with serious injury, police said.  Police had issued at an alert for a green Jeep Cherokee that struck the woman shortly before 2 p.m. May 1 along the side of Airline Road in north Henry County near the Rockdale County line.  The vehicle fled the scene, and the victim was flown by Air Ambulance to the Atlanta Medical Center. She underwent surgery for a broken hip and broken leg and has since been released from the hospital, police said.

Smyrna Police Arrest Driver in Officer Involved Hit-and-Run

In Georgia the Smyrna Police have arrested a person they believe to be responsible for an afternoon hit and run accident which involved one of their motorcycle officers.

The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Ridge Road and South Cobb Drive. According to officials, a 1997 Nissan Maxima made a left turn into 53-year-old Cpl. Gene Crawford and fled the scene.

Police located the driver of the Maxima a short time after the accident. The driver, Jennifer Karen Cook, was arrested and charged with two felonies, including: Hit & Run, Serious Injury by a Vehicle and Failure to Yield Left Turn.

Cpl. Crawford is in stable condition but sustained two broken ankles, a broken leg and a fractured hip; he has been a motor officer for about 14 years.

Car Crashes Through Cherokee Garage

In Acworth Georgia the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported that a gold Honda, driven by a 36-year-old man, went through a house located at 2947 Cedar Mill Crossing, near Kellogg Creek.

Officials said the car hit one side of the home and flew out of the home on the other side.

Authorities said the driver of the car had a number of cuts and scrapes, and a possible broken or dislocated hip. The driver was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he was listed in stable but critical condition.

The owner of the house, Gordon McDowell, says no one was home at the time of the accident but his two dogs. They were in the garage.  The escaped without a scratch.  One of the dogs, Dixie, ran away, frightened.  As seen in the accompanying video, Dixie found her way home after about five hours.

The house has been cordoned off by firefighters due the instability of the structure
