Friday, July 10, 2009 Christopher Davis, DUI accident killed Clint Gercone
Christopher Davis, 22, was so drunk that he crashed his 1997 Nissan pickup truck and didn’t realize his passenger was dead. He is now in the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where is he being held without bond on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI, felony hit and run and failure to maintain lane. Davis was driving on Lake Shore Drive in Duluth around 1:30 a.m. Friday when he attempted to go around a curve near Ridge Road and lost control. His pickup veered off the road, struck a mailbox and landed in a drainage ditch. During the crash, the truck overturned and landed on its wheels, police said. Davis then drove off, not realizing his passenger Clint Gercone, 24, was nonresponsive, police said. A few minutes later, he stopped to call 911. Gercone, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Investigators determined that Davis had been drinking and arrested him, Schiralli said. The crash remains under investigation.
