Several accidents on I-85 in Coweta County on Saturday July 4. 2009
I-85 in Coweta County was stopped for almost 3 1/2 hours on Saturday because of a series of accidents that began with a six-vehicle wreck just a few minutes before 4 p.m.
People trying to escape the standstill by illegally crossing over the grass median caused more crashes in the southbound At least three people were flown by helicopter to Atlanta hospitals – Grady Memorial, Atlanta Medical Center and Scottish Rite. The identities and conditions of the three victims were not available.
The first involved a tractor-trailer truck and five cars at the Sharpsburg-McCollum exit. Three separate accidents followed as fast-moving cars came up on the stalled traffic.
The total accidents is not know but happened in the area because some of them were handled by the Coweta County Sheriff. Calls to the sheriff’s office Saturday night were answered by an automated system.

Cesar Augusto Lopez, 35, of Guatemala, and Wilzon Aguilar, 44, of Texas were killed when their car struck a guardrail on Monday July 6, 2009
Two people were killed in a car crash northbound I-85 near Monday evening.
Their 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling north on I-85 when they lost control hitting a guardrail causing it to overturn several times south of Ga. 20 about 7:15 p.m.
Emergency responders discovered two occupants dead at the scene. One was ejected from the vehicle and the other was wearing a seat belt in the front passenger seat.
The driver, Guillermo Gamero, 35, of Texas, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Head on collision Wednesday June 30, 2009 involving Thomas Costlow and Nicholas Carson at Etowah Drive, Acworth
Thomas Wade Costlow, 39, of Aragon, had been driving a 1991 Oldsmobile Ciera around 10 p.m. Wednesday when his car was hit head on by a 1995 Honda Civic piloted by Nicholas Stuart Carson, 35, of 4236 Etowah Drive, Acworth, GA.
Officers found several prescription medication bottles in Carson car. Carson died in the accident and Costlow was taken via air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center.
Carson’s car was reportedly traveling on the wrong side of the road and almost hit another vehicle before this collision.

Victor Romo-salas is at fault for injuring his son Kevin Romo-salas in a DUI crash.
A boy from Gwinnett County was seriously injured after his father crashed their car while he was intoxicated. Victor Roma-Ioera, 26, of Dacula, was arrested after the wreck at the intersection of Buford Highway and Pleasant Hill Road.
The father was given a breathalyzer which registered a .126 blood alcohol level. The legal limit in Georgia is .08. His son Kevin Romo-salas, was sent to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite and was then listed in critical condition with brain injuries. Mr. Romo-Ioera had previously pleaded guilty in 2005 to DUI. He was charged with serious injury by vehicle and DUI-child endangerment. He was denied bond.
